2128 continued....... Receiving
hint: click on thumbnail image to view full size photo This package was shipped via ups ground. It arrived on time (7 days coast to usa coast) and with some evidence of scuffing. The hole in the one side was put there deliberately (no doubt) as a handhold by the carrier who had to walk this package to the door. If you feel like saving these guys a back injury, you could put a hand hold in the box prior to shipment. Personally, I prefer to use a hand truck to move odd shaped packages.
The packer used 1-inch thick styrofoam plate to increase stiffness of the carton. The foam is light and adds structural integrity to the box; improving your turntable's chances of arriving without damage. Contents stacking order. the light delicate part should have its own container and sit on top of the heavy boxes so it doesn't get crushed by them.
The next lower box in the stacking order contains the next lightest assembly; the chassis. Note the use of foam plates within the outer carton.
At the bottom of the shipping container is a box containing the heaviest piece; the iron flywheel and bearing shaft assembly. Because this item is the most solid and heavy piece it makes sense to place it low within the box. This keeps the center of gravity low, and, when the riding gets rough, helps keep the box less likely to fall over.
