Bryce Canyon, Utah September 29, 2006

Below Sunset Pt. is a wide, safe foot path called "Under The Rim
Trail". I walked down the trail a few hundred feet to take this
photo and 4 more just below.

During the heat of the day, when the sun is high, the air is warm and the
crowds are thick, most visitors crowd into the various view points to look over
the canyon. But a funny thing happens at around dinner time. Most
visitors go back to their RVs at the park, their tents at the camp, the
restaurant at the lodge to have something to eat and then rest for the
evening. This time is when the light changes from harsh to warm, the
shadows grow long and soft and picture taking gets better. The caveat to
this is that one side of the canyon goes dark while the other side that is
front lit becomes warmly illuminated. The first 5 photos on this page were
taken after the crowds had evacuated. The 8 photos below were taken during
the heat of the day when the light was harder and the crowds were thicker.

Park elevation is 9115 ft. at the highest point.
