(above) With clip removed (only way to get to it is from under the bottom cover). The plastic flange works with the sheet metal clip to prevent the subplatter falling out of the spindle bearing when the table is held upside down. Probably a good idea.

Spindles and their bearings. Note also this is a zinc alloy subplatter. Same configuration as MK I, but the MK I on this web site does not feature the safety clip and flange.
