Back to the TAD Spotmat index page TAD Spotmat #7: Spotmat #6 came close to being right but had some operational faults. Mat 7 is meant to be the fix. Materials are different in this mat. The top layer is canvas the bottom layer is cork. Clarification. The top canvas layer is an artist grade canvas typically used for paintings but in this case it has been coated with ink-jet friendly stuff that allows me to print my high-rez graphic patterns to it. The cork is a neoprene blended cork as used for automotive gaskets. Rubberized cork. The cork spots are the same stuff. I call this one the "Celt Spotmat". 1) As can be seen I have reduced the outer mat diameter. This allows more air under the record. This mat tends to lie flat where previous larger versions saw some edge lifting. 2) Before applying the spots. The blue circles mark the spot locations. In this photo the mat has already been laminated, hole punched and perimeter cut. The hole punch is a #9 hollow leather punch which makes a hole 'spindle-pin-size' (.281 inches). 3) Looking at the cork bottom layer. Just .06 inches thin, the cork provides a firm seating that also damps. 4) Done....! The cork spots are cut by hand using an inking template to lay out the circles and sharp scissors to do the cutting. I suppose I could break down and get a 3/4 inch leather punch but then..............
Comments: Overall thickness is .135 inches. The canvas upper surface is more durable than my previous paper mats. I like this much better. The canvas adds a texture to the graphic that enhances as well. Sound is ok.
