TAD Spotmat #9

Same as Spotmat #8 in terms of diameters, spot layout and material thickness, but the material is now pure gum rubber sheet.  With a Durometer hardness rating of  Shore 40 A, the material is dense, heavy for its volume and drapes limply over whatever it lies upon.  There is no problem with warping in this material.  It just lays flat naturally.

Material colors were limited to off white (shown) and tan. Since the mat thickness is the same as the previous two mats I could make an A to B to C comparison readily without any VTA adjustments.  If I hadn't heard Spotmat #8 or the Corkmat CM-1 I might have been favorably impressed.  Background silence is good and the low frequencies are solid and detailed. It comes up just a little bit lacking in that sense of air, details and presence that I associate with Spotmat #8.  I didn't get that little extra upper frequency extension I heard with Spotmat #8, either.  I might also prefer Corkmat CM-1 over Spotmat #9 as well and for the same reasons.

The material is available through Mcmaster-Carr with part # 87145 K81
